Michael
M. Crow, Executive Vice Provost, launched the
Columbia Nanotechnology Initiative in 2001 to
promote nanoscale research and training in engineering,
science and medicine. Our goals are to:
- Cultivate
and promote multidisciplinary research teams
that link biology, chemistry, engineering, physics,
materials science and medicine.
- Lead
academic research in understanding the societal
implications of nanoscale discoveries and products.
- Develop
external collaborations with industry, national
laboratories, other universities, and international
partners.
- Link
nanoscale discoveries to technology transfer
opportunities to maximize innovation.
- Work
with industry partners to identify and solve
scientific and technical challenges in nanotechnology.
The Initiative will
also pursue future opportunities in the areas
of imaging, sensors, microscopy, and drug delivery
by building teams with faculty, postdoctoral associates
and students using University seed funds.
