Education and Outreach Opportunities: MRSEC, NSEC, EMSI

All three of the Columbia University centers described in this brochure incorporate an innovative educational program directed toward linking discoveries and the Center researchers to high school, undergraduate and graduate students in a collaborative research environment. These educational and outreach programs are designed to attract new students and to teach them about nanotechnology.

The Centers run summer programs for Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and Teachers (RET) targeted for NYC K-12 science teachers. These programs provide an opportunity to conduct research over the summer with MRSEC and other materials faculty. In addition, the students visit industrial and government research laboratories in the NYC metropolitan area and attend a weekly materials seminar series. In the MRSEC center, faculty and students to NYC schools to promote materials and technology are underway. For more information on these programs, contact the directors listed under the center of interest.
